Google Business Profile in 2026: A Checklist for Local Shops and Clinics
Published: 10/9/2026
Category: Marketing
When people search 'near me', Google Business Profile decides who they call. A 2026 checklist for local shops, clinics and restaurants: categories, hours, photos, products, reviews and posts.
When someone searches "medical store near me" or "best thali in Nashik", the results they see first come from Google Business Profile (GBP). A complete, accurate profile with recent photos and genuine reviews brings calls, directions and walk-ins, for free. This checklist takes about an hour the first time and ten minutes a month after that.
The 12-point checklist
- Claim and verify your business on Google Business Profile. Only one profile per location.
- Exact business name, as on your signboard. Do not add keywords ("Sharma Store Best Grocery Pune") — it breaks Google's guidelines.
- Primary category that matches what you are (for example, "Grocery store", "Medical clinic", "Restaurant"), plus a few accurate secondary categories.
- Address and map pin placed exactly on your entrance.
- Phone number that is answered during business hours, ideally the same number on your website and signboard.
- Hours, including special hours for festivals and holidays. Wrong hours lose trust fast.
- Website or booking link that works on a phone.
- Description: what you sell or do, who you serve and what makes you different, in plain words.
- Products or services with names, short descriptions and prices where relevant.
- Photos: storefront (so people recognise you), interior, team and top products. Add new ones monthly.
- Reviews: ask happy customers, reply to every review politely, including negative ones.
- Posts and updates for offers, new arrivals and festival hours.
Consistency matters
Your name, address and phone should be identical on GBP, your website, WhatsApp Business profile, bills and directory listings. Mismatches confuse both customers and Google.
Clinics and doctors
Create separate profiles only where appropriate (for example, a practice vs individual practitioners, following Google's guidelines). Keep health claims factual; do not promise outcomes.
Restaurants
Add your menu, price range, dine-in or delivery options and photos of real dishes. Update the menu when prices change.
What to avoid
- Fake reviews or paying for reviews
- Keyword-stuffed names
- Several profiles for the same location
- Old festival offers still showing in posts
A 10-minute monthly routine
- Reply to new reviews
- Add 3–5 new photos
- Check hours (especially before festivals)
- Post one update or offer
- Look at Insights: calls, direction requests and searches that found you
